Hand crafted carpet bag includes matching removable strap, secure fabric magnetic closure and features a 9 x 13 inch envelope pocket on the back - perfect for plane tickets, magazines/books or even a laptop or tablet. The handles are crafted from soft, rolled glove leather, very pliable and comfortable in your hand. Four interior pockets - each 8 x 7 1/2" - hold smaller items. Carpet bags were originally traveling bags made of carpet, often from oriental rugs, ranging in size from small purses to large duffel bags. These bags were popular in the US & Europe during the 19th century and remain popular today. ArtisanStreet's carpet bags are a modernized replica of the originals. They are available in a broad range of colors and patterns and feature thick tapestries, fine brocades, and stunning chenille fabrics. We use the finest tapestry fabrics covering a steel, spring-loaded steel frame which snaps open for easy access - similar to an old-fashioned doctor's bag. The carpet bags stay open until ready to be closed then they snap securely shut. A magnetized fabric flap closure adds the finishing touch. Bags are fully lined. At the bottom of each you'll find a lightweight board, providing stability between the fabric layers. Each bag sits on six brass "feet" to protect the fabric when the bag is set down. All hardware finishes are brass. The ArtisanStreet carpet bag is the perfect piece of weekender luggage or plane carry-on. Because it is soft sided, it can be "squished" into almost any overhead rack or under-seat space. When not in use, the bag can be folded down to 22 x 9 x 3 inches and packed away into a larger suitcase for bringing home those extras. It also makes for an unusual yet functional briefcase.
